The Baby Trend Expedition Jogger Stroller is the most popular, more affordable, jogging stroller. This is a great stroller for those who need to keep budget in mind but would like to start jogging.
This jogging stroller has a slim profile. It’s only 21 inch width makes it a practical choice for everyday use. It is 27 pounds, which is an average weight for a jogging stroller. This jogging stroller boasts some great features such as a large basket under the seat and an included parent console featuring cup holders and a compartment perfect for your cell phone or other small items.
This stroller can be used with your infant carrier. Simply snap the car seat in and begin strolling. Once your baby is big enough, use the included seat. It is recommended you do not start jogging with your baby until they can sit unassisted.
The main seat reclines to many different positions. This is an especially appealing quality for those moms who want their babies to be able to nap on the go. The Baby Trend main seat accommodates a child up to 50 pounds. This is on the smaller side for jogging strollers. It also recommends a child be under 42 inches to sit comfortably in the stroller.
Many jogging strollers sell extras at an additional cost, however, this jogging stroller comes equipped with many accessories. For instance, a child’s snack tray is included. It comes with cup holders and a place to put a small baby snack. It also comes with reflectors to keep you and your baby safe while walking or running at night. For a lower cost model stroller, the accessories are amazing!
One drawback to the Baby Trend stroller is the canopy. It is quite small. It is made with 2 panels and a sun visor made of mesh. The mesh can be used to check on your baby from the back of the stroller. Simply, remove the Velcro closure and you can see if your baby is sleeping. The sunshade can be moved forward to cover different parts of the baby. However, it will not cover the entire baby all at once. It also doesn’t cover much of the sides of the stroller.
This stroller has 3 bicycle tire wheels. These wheels can swivel making it easy to stroll and steer. They also make it a more comfortable ride for both you and the baby. The stroller is smooth even when jogging over bumpy terrain. As with most jogging strollers the bicycle tires do need to be inflated. They are also more prone to get punctures. This can be an annoyance especially when you take the stroller off road.
Because this stroller does not come with suspension, it may be best suited for a not so serious runner. It maybe for someone who runs shorter distances. The real draw to this stroller is it can be taken on runs but also is small enough to use as an everyday stroller. The back rest is a bit hard, again making it most comfortable for shorter distances.
The handlebar on the stroller is not adjustable. For most people, this is not a huge problem. However, if you are on the shorter or taller side you may wish you had a more customizable handlebar. This stroller does come equipped with a rubber grip. This makes steering and holding on while jogging much easier. The double action brakes can be someone frustrating. They must both be engaged to park the stroller. This can be hard to remember sometimes.
This stroller does fold very easily. All you need to do is pull the trigger and the stroller collapses very well. Although it may not be the most compact folded stroller, the wheels can be removed to make it even smaller.

A great hybrid stroller perfect for jogging through muddy paths or maneuvering through the mall. This stroller does it all. It is one of the best swivel wheel jogging strollers on the market. It is no wonder it is one of the most popular running stroller.
The front wheels can simply be locked for jogging. This makes jogging easier. When you need the maneuverability, the front wheel pivots making it easy to get around obstacles. This stroller is very user friendly. It can be switched between the two modes in just a matter of seconds.
This Bob also boasts a wonderful canopy. It is quite large and can easily be rotated to different positions. This is handy when the sun is shining on your baby’s legs and not their head. It is also easy to fold the canopy down so your baby can look around and enjoy the great outdoors.
An optional adaptor can be purchased separately for this stroller. It allows you to use your car seat right in the stroller while the baby is young. Special adaptors can be purchased for all sorts of car seat brands including; Britax, Chicco, PegPerego, and Graco. This ensures that a baby, who is too young to sit in the main seat, can be safe and comfortable strolling around in the Bob.
While this jogging stroller is very easy to use and maneuver it is definitely on the heavier side of the spectrum. It weighs about 25 pounds. This makes transporting it into your car or into your home more of a challenge. It may help develop those arm muscles!
There are not many jogging strollers that you can easily push with just one hand. But the Bob Revolution SE is one of them. It is also incredibly smooth, no matter the terrain.
Despite its heavy weight and bulky design, this stroller folds down rather compactly. It even allows its wheels to be removed to make it even smaller. This is a huge pro for people who do not own a large car. The Bob Revolution SE is extremely easy to unfold. You can do it with just one hand!
The Revolution SE has great storage! It has a very large basket under the main seat of the stroller. It also comes equipped with a pocket behind the seat that can easily hold valuables. Ask any mom-stroller storage is a must!
This stroller is very comfortable to sit in. Its reclining seat makes napping on the go a breeze. It also has a padded harness that makes bucking comfortable. Its breathable seat allows air to circulate preventing your baby from overheating in warm weather.
This stroller can be used until your child hits the 70-pound mark. This makes the longevity on this stroller unparalleled. You could use this stroller for over 5 years with one child. This makes the price more reasonable.
Unfortunately, most accessories for the Bob Revolution SE are sold separately. Cup holders must be purchased separately. Stroller cover must be purchased separately. Snack trays must be purchased separately. While some of these accessories are luxuries and unneeded some do enhance the quality and usability of the stroller.
One great thing you get with a Bob is peace of mind. With every Bob Stroller, you will be given a 5 year warranty. This covers small parts and the fabric on the bob. If you are looking for a smooth, easy to use, comfortable, and durable stroller, this is the one for you.

The Graco FastAction Click Connect is one of the cheapest jogging strollers that’s highly recommended for beginners. While it has several drawbacks such as being a bit heavy, it comes highly recommended by other parents and is incredibly popular in the lower price range.
It is a great option for parents looking for a stroller that’s not strictly for jogging. It can be used since birth as a system for traveling with all Graco Click Connect infant car seats without the need for any adapters. Remember that it is only possible to stroll and not run while the infant car seat is attached.
The main seat is only capable of holding a child of up to 50 pounds and is 12-inches wide. To provide comfort that allows for naps during strolls, it comes with a 4-position recline.
The canopy is not necessarily the largest one and only offers decent shade, but the fact that the side mesh parts allow for extra air-flow is highly appreciated by users. It also comes with a peek-a-boo window to allow parents to check on their children at will.
The jogger stroller features a 3-wheel design with the front wheel being 11 inches and the rear ones being 16-inches. The front wheels swivel and lock, which makes it easy to switch from regular strolling to jogging. The tires are made of rubber and come filled with air to cushion the ride. However, the jogging stroller does not come with a standard suspension system, which makes it better for shorter distances as well as slow jogging compared to serious running.
The stroller comes with 2-action brakes, which means that 2 pedals have to be pressed to lock it. One more safety feature is included in the stroller, which is a strap for a runner’s wrist.
The Graco FastAction Fold Jogger weighs more than most other models in the same ranking. It weighs 30-pounds, which means that getting it in and out of your car trunk frequently or carrying it up and down the stairs can be quite challenging. It is also rather large measuring 40 by 40 by 24 inches and takes up a great deal of space even when folded, which means that it might not fit in all car trunks. Some parents have complained of being forced to take off the wheels whenever they wish to fit the stroller into the car trunk, which is quite annoying particularly if the tires are dirty.
Fortunately, there’s a good thing about folding the stroller – it is quick and easy. All you have to do is pull the strap on the regular seat and you can even do it using one hand.
The other key advantage of this jogging stroller is the parent tray included in its price. It comes with 2 deep beverage holders, a covered compartment, and a smartphone holder to ensure that all your essentials are kept within easy reach.
The stroller also comes with a child tray that has 2 cup holders, which is perfect for a bottle of water, sippy cup, and a place for the child’s snacks. The tray is both removable and pivoting, which means that you can easily take your child in and out of the seat.
Beneath the seat is a capacious storage basket for parents to keep a medium or even large diaper bag. The jogging stroller also comes with reflectors on the wheels and child tray that ensure that both parent and baby are visible even in low light. It is definitely not bad equipment for an inexpensive jogging stroller.

- Canopy is a bit short
- The handlebar cannot be adjusted and can be uncomfortable for parents below 5’ 6”

- Pivoting, molded parent tray with 2 cup holders; built-in MP3 speaker

The brands mentioned in this article might be either household or close to household names, but no brand comes close to how easily recognizable the Schwinn brand is around the globe. Schwinn was established in 1895 and has been designing and manufacturing quality bicycles for over a century. Recently, the brand has taken the vast experience it has amassed in bicycle creation to start building other products including the Turismo Swivel Jogging Stroller. Coming from one of the most reputable brands in the world, it is proper to assume that the Turismo Swivel is a durable, properly constructed product that can be trusted to hold your child safely.
The Turismo Swivel comes with several standard jogging stroller features including a sun canopy, enough storage, and an adjustable handlebar, which means that it checks all the boxes that comprise a perfectly rounded jogging stroller at a competitive price. Having said that, it is important to appreciate the fact that it comes with several distinctive features that you won’t find in other units featured here. For starters, it comes with an aluminum frame, which means that it’s both lightweight and very strong and won’t rust when exposed to the elements. Schwinn has even included a set of speakers near the sun canopy of the stroller where you can plug in most MP3 players.
- Great design and construction with a lightweight aluminum frame.
- Adjustable handlebar that’s soft and slip-resistant to ensure comfort for all parents regardless of height.
- Front wheels swivel for ease of use during regular strolling and lock into place when rolling over rougher surfaces or jogging.
- Wide-treat tires from a world-famous bicycle company ensure good grip regardless of terrain.
- Sufficient storage offered in form of a storage basket beneath the seat, 2 cupholders, and a parent tray.
- The sun canopy shields the child from harmful rays but provides a window and even features speakers that are compatible with the majority of MP3 players.
- While other strollers can be quickly folded using just one hand, this model requires a bit more finesse.
- Users wish the stroller comes equipped with a hand brake like other units reviewed here.

- Travel system ready: Compatible with BOB or Britax infant car seats when using the BOB Infant car seat adapter (sold separately) and with most other major brands
The BOB 2016 Revolution is clear evidence of the iterations made by BOB with its jogging stroller over the years, which when combined with their patented and innovative technologies has led to the unit being one of the highest quality jogging strollers currently available in the market.
The stroller comes with an impressive array of features including adjustable suspension, adjustable handlebars, comfortable seat, and a decent storage bin. The “Flex” name comes from the fact that the stroller comes with so many adjustable components to suit all contexts and users.
Besides the adjustable suspension, the inflatable rubber tires ensure a smooth and stable ride with great traction on varied surfaces. It comes with an exceptional sun canopy with massive coverage to block rain and sun on longer runs, while the seat has several recline settings.
The stroller might not come with any cup holders, but you can buy some accessories separately. BOB has made a great handlebar console for parents that includes a snack tray that has a cup holder for children as well as 2 cup holders.
Of the strollers featured here, it is this unit that felt most durable and sturdy, inspiring confidence while running. The wheels not only have a large diameter, but are actual inflatable tires made of rubber and not the cheap, hard ones found on many other models. The BOB 2016 Revolution is designed for babies from 8-weeks old up to those weighing 75 pounds.
When it comes to the downsides, the storage bin is somewhat small for longer trips, handlebars aren’t angled ergonomically, and is also quite cumbersome and large like other jogging strollers. Some of the more petite mothers have found it hard to lift into their vehicles. Compared to earlier models, this one is slightly larger overall, with a larger canopy, higher handlebars, and convenient side pockets for pacifiers or cellphones.
- BOB has used high quality materials and parts to produce this jogging stroller to make it one of the highest quality strollers currently in the market.
- The padded seating area is very comfortable, durable, and easy to clean drinks, food, and other messes off of.
- The front wheel swivels and locks, which means that the stroller is capable of handling tight corners effortlessly or ensure sufficient stability when coupled with the suspension system when jogging or for rough terrain.
- The padded handlebar is incredibly comfortable and can be situated in 9 different positions for all adults irrespective of height.
- It is easily foldable for easier storage and transportation with BOB’s 2-step fold system.
- Users have reported that the sun canopy on their unit does not always stay down.
- While it is warranted, it is still one of the more expensive units currently in the market.
6. Joovy Zoom 360 Ultralight Jogging Stroller
- Extra wide seat sits high to give child great visibility, multi-position seat recline
- Includes parent organizer, running leash, and tire pump
- Quick release 16" rear wheels and 12.5" swivel front wheel that locks straight
- Aluminum frame with shock absorbing suspension
- Easy compact fold; Care and cleaning: Wipe clean with soap and water; Material: Aluminum, Polyester
The Joovy Zoom 360 Ultralight Jogging Stroller is one of the most popular medium-price ranged strollers. Not only is it high-quality, but it’s lightweight and easy to operate.
Similar to other jogging strollers on the market, it has a three-wheel design. The front wheels are 12 inches, and the rear wheels are 16 inches. The front wheel swivel capability makes it easy to maneuver and it can be locked to create a better balance for running and for passing over rough land.
The stroller contains pneumatic tires that need to be inflated from time to time. However, there’s a bike pump that comes with the stroller. So there’s no need to purchase one separately. The rear wheels are locked in place with a foot-operated parking brake and a safety strap to be attached to your wrist is included. The stroller is perfect for moving over unbeaten paths and dirt roads because its shock absorbing suspension smooths out any bumps.
What do most parents love about the Joovy Zoom 360 Ultralight Jogging Stroller? It’s the lightweight aluminum frame. In fact, the entire stroller only weighs 25.7 pounds which is exceptionally slight for a jogger stroller.
Parents can rest assured that they can use the stroller for a long time knowing that the multi-position reclining seat holds a passenger up to 75 pounds. Inside the seat, parents will find mesh pockets perfect for your baby’s snacks and other goodies. There’s also a far-reaching canopy that protects baby from the wind and sun.
This is a jogging stroller that can be turned into a travel system right along with various car seats from major brands. The adapters are sold separately. Therefore, you can use Zoom 360 Ultralight from birth. After about six months, you can then begin running with your baby because that’s when he or she can hold his or her head up and sit unassisted.
What’s another benefit of the Joovy Zoom 360 Ultralight Jogging Stroller? It’s the storage space. The stroller has an extensive basket located under the seat with a parent organizer included. Therefore, you can safely bring along your phone and your keys and keep them in the zippered pocket. Two bottles of water or two sippy cups can fit in the area, too.
Perhaps what’s best about the Zoom 360 Ultralight is its reasonable price. With all of its high-quality features, the stroller is right in line with high-end competing models.
- The jogging stroller has a suspension that absorbs shock on uneven terrain. This makes for a smooth ride.
- This Joovy’s front wheel swivels for easy and quick maneuvering, and for uneven terrain or jogging it locks into place. No matter the surface, due to its bicycle-like tires, the stroller rolls with ease.
- It has an extra-wide seating area, for up to 75 pounds, and it reclines in multiple positions.
- A pump comes with each stroller, along with a running leash and a storage area for parents.
- It is the largest stroller we include on our list. That’s a good thing if you have tall children. However, the stroller is somewhat hard to travel with.
- There are users who feel the stroller, due to its size, is hard to fold and unfold
7. Thule Urban Glide – Jogging Stroller

Thule, makers of the Urban Glide Jogging Stroller, have a lot of experience in the stroller business. The Swedish company was founded in 1942, and it provides luggage, bags, racks, and carriers for the car, along with items intended to be used with children, such as jogging strollers. Their mission is arguably the best of any brand – “you transport anything you care for safely, easily, and in style so you are free to live your active life.” For parents who love an active lifestyle all while taking care of their children, the Thule Urban Glide Jogging Stroller comes to mind.
Yes, Thule’s jogging stroller has a steeper price tag, but the unique features put it in a separate class and justify the cost. For example, the stroller is extremely lightweight and one of the lightest you’ll find. However, despite its weight, it can still hold an individual up to 75 pounds, the highest capacity on our list. The Urban Glide’s other unique features include a peek-a-boo window and a multi-position canopy.
- It’s easy to assemble.
- The maneuverability is easy.
- The stroller is easy to push and easy to run with.
- The Thule Urban Glide Jogging Stroller is perfect for serious runners along with being an everyday stroller.
- The quality is top-of-the-line all while being less expensive.
- It’s sturdy and solid while being light and compact.
- For day trips and other outings, there’s a large storage bin that can hold a few shopping bags, etc.
- The handlebar is adjustable, making it perfect for parents of all heights.
- Fold the Urban Glide, and it fits in most car trunks.
- It’s easy to fold and easy to open.
- It may take some practice to get the front wheel locked.
- Even with the highest setting employed for the seat, it still reclines.
- A few parents have stated that the seat is relatively skinny.
8. Baby Jogger 2016 Summit X3 Single Jogging Stroller
- Lace up your running shoes and get moving with the exceptional performance of this jogging stroller
- All-wheel suspension makes for a smooth ride, whether jogging or strolling, on any terrain
- The unique, hand-operated deceleration brake and handlebar tether strap keep you in control whether you need to head downhill or pick up the pace
- Air-filled rubber tires and swivel lock on the handlebar make it easy to quickly switch between jogging and strolling modes
- Signature one-hand compact fold makes it simple to store
For a medium priced stroller, the Baby Jogger 2016 Summit X3 Single Jogging Stroller is available at a good price. That being said, it does not perform as well as running strollers. However, because it has a few features that other strollers of its kind do not, I decided to include it.
I consider this a hybrid, meaning it’s a jogging stroller and an everyday stroller. Its three tire wheels are made of air-filled rubber. As with other models, you’ll find a smaller front wheel at 12 inches and a larger back wheel at 16 inches. For easing out rough terrain during walking and running, the stroller has an all-wheel suspension. This stroller stays on track, and it’s easy to run with and to push.
The Summit X3 provides a fast switch between the running mode and the strolling mode (the front wheel has a swivel and lock position.) This is due to the remote wheel lock that is located on the push bar. This is unlike other jogging strollers that require a parent to manually turn the wheel and use the knob on the front wheel to lock it. With the Baby Jogger, your hands don’t have to get dirty. Therefore, this kind of locking mechanism really comes in handy.
When the front wheel is in swivel mode, a parent will find that the short turns are easy. However, when the front wheel is locked, it will be difficult to turn due to the longer wheelbase. Sweeping turns, however, are not an issue. That said, when a parent is going over substantial curbs, the stroller might get bouncy. Care should, therefore, be used to make this easy, meaning you’ll probably need to help it somewhat.
This stroller has not one but two breaks. It’s a foot-operated parking brake. It’s got a pedal that’s a breeze to use. However, releasing it means you’ll need to use the top of your foot. So if you’re wearing flip-flops, that could be a problem. It also has hand-operated rear drum brakes. That means you can speed up or slow down the stroller at any time. If you’re planning to run up a hill, it’s a great feature. In fact, at the Summit X3 price, many parents love the two-brakes system, something you don’t normally see. With that in mind, the handbrake is difficult to squeeze, particularly for a beginner. The stroller also features a safety leash.
The stroller has a large 3-panel canopy, and it has two peek-a-boo windows and side vents. It has a seat with infinite recline, and it lowers to approximately 20 degrees from the ground. Keep in mind that running with a fully reclined position is not safe. However, the feature is useful for when a toddler wishes to nap during a walk. The air-flow is improved with a seat back vent.
You’ll find an extensive storage bin under the seat. It can hold a medium-sized diaper bag. There’s a mesh pocket, on the back of the seat, that can carry a water bottle and your belongings.
What I dislike about the stroller are the non-adjustable handlebars. So if you’re a tall parent, it’s not very accommodating. Short or average parents up to 5’7” are well-served by the height.
It’s a big stroller, but it folds easily. In fact, Summit X3 can fold with just one hand thanks to its patented technology. However, it’s not a compact fold, and it will require a lot of space in the trunk of your car or your home.
- You can use this stroller starting at birth, and it has a solid and sturdy adapter.
- This is a stroller that is easy to push and easy to maneuver.
- The Summit X3 is sturdy and strong.
- If you’ve got hills in your area, the handbrake comes in handy.
- The stroller is perfect for gravel, grass or any uneven terrain.
- Adequate ventilation is provided by the mesh component of the seat and canopy.
- You can fold and open this stroller with ease.
- This is a heavy and bulky stroller for its kind.
- Accessing the basket is hard.
- Storing the stroller takes a lot of space. Therefore, transporting the stroller is not easy. You can help the process along by detaching the wheels.
- It has a plastic peek-a-boo window.

We believe this is the least expensive double jogging stroller out there. However, it is still one of the best. It is highly recommended for all joggers.
We do want to point out that this double jogger doesn%u2019t have the same features that the more expensive double joggers have. For example, it has drawback and it lacks a couple of functions. Regardless, if you%u2019re a beginner or you like to jog for short distances, then this double stroller is for you.
The Baby Trend Expedition jogger has a three-wheel design, and the front wheel can be locked. It also swivels. If you want to prevent it from getting away from you, then you can simply use the safety leash.
The seats in the jogger recline, but we aren%u2019t huge fans of the harnesses. This is because they aren%u2019t padded. You%u2019ll enjoy maximum visibility too, thanks to the reflectors that are on the sides of the stroller.
It comes with two cup holders as well as a storage compartment. Higher-end strollers tend to lack this feature. Not only that, but the parent tray features a plug-in for MP3 speakers. You can use various MP3 players, as well as an iPhone or an iPod, so if you love music while you jog, then this stroller is for you.
The storage space is impressive. The basket is located under the seats, and you can fit so much stuff into it, especially since it%u2019s divided into to parts. You can easily fit multiple items in there, including a large diaper bag. There%u2019s a pouch located behind each seat, which is handy because you can place other items in them.
However, there are a couple of drawbacks we want to point out. For starters, the stroller is only equipped with a single canopy, and it just would be better if there were two canopies. This might not be a big deal for some people, but I personally would have preferred two canopies.
The handbrake is the second drawback, well we should say lack of one. The stroller is large and it is heavy, especially when you have two kids in it, which means this stroller can be hard to control. Without a handbrake, you really don’t want to be going up and down hills with it. You might not be able to control it when you’re going down a hill at high speeds.
Perhaps the biggest drawback of all is that the stroller lacks a suspension system. Sure, if you go at a slow pace on harsher terrains, then you’ll be fine, but don’t expect to be able to jog or walk at very fast paces. In other words, if you’re a runner who pushes themselves and runs as fast as they can, then this stroller isn’t for you. It is designed more for beginners who might go for an occasional jog or if they mostly walk.
- This stroller is easy to assemble and the parent console is useful.
- We like the speakers and we think the wheels are of good quality and they are strong enough to handle harsh and uneven terrain.
- It is light to push.
- It’s easy to fold up and you can use it for kids up to four or five.
- It doesn’t cost a lot of money.
- It is very large and you can struggle to get it through narrow spaces.
- It might not fit in your trunk, if it’s small and the suspension is horrible. That’s because it’s not equipped with a suspension system.
Reasons To Consider Using A Stroller When Jogging
It is difficult to argue against the proposition that running while pushing a little one in a stroller has numerous benefits for parents as well as youngsters. Some of the most notably positive attributes of engaging in this type of exercise include:
* Jump starts postpartum recovery of mind as well as body
* Great for facilitating weight loss
* Allows easy resumption of activity without being away from child
* Small children love to ride while a parent runs
* Encourages healthy exercise habits to last a lifetime
Do You Need A Jogging Stroller?
When taking a leisurely walk in a shopping center or along neighborhood sidewalks, conventional strollers will more than suffice. However, for parents planning to integrate a bit of running in their outings with small kids, a jogging stroller is essential for navigating the bumps and cracks of the surfaces that will be encountered.
Key Distinctions Between Traditional And Jogging Strollers
* A jogging stroller features three wheels for ease of quick turning.
* Jogging strollers are equipped with tires that are filled with air and have suspension systems for rough terrain, both features that conventional strollers lack.
* Joggers weight less than typical strollers so that they can be rolled by parents who are already engaged in physical exertion.
* Strollers meant for jogging have broader widths for added stability at higher speeds.
While traditional types of strollers are not appropriate for use while running, there are jogging strollers that may do double duty as daily walkers as well.
When Do You Need A Jogging Stroller?
Numerous jogging strollers are equipped to accommodate infant carrier seats so that they can be utilized for slow walks right from birth. It must be noted, though, that these strollers must not be used for actual runs until the baby reaches no less than 8 months of age. There are some experts who suggest that 12 months is even better. This is because very young babies lack the head and neck strength required to withstand the bouncing and bumping that occurs during a run. After the baby reaches an appropriate age, however, the jogging stroller can be in heavy rotation, as they typically hold kids up to the age of five.
Types of Strollers
Strollers in general are broken down into six main categories. These are the full-size stroller, the umbrella stroller, the multi-function models, all-terrain versions, jogging strollers and infant travel systems. The distinctions are important to grasp.
* Jogging strollers
A jogging stroller is one fitted with air-filled tires and frames made of lightweight material suitable for jogging on uneven terrain. The best options within this category tend to be those with a front, fixed wheel that adds stability. Aluminum-framed jogging strollers typically start at a price of $300 and go up from there, though it is often possible to find steel-framed examples that cost less.
* Umbrella strollers
Umbrella strollers tend to weigh less than 20 pounds. They have two handles and can be folded, umbrella-like for convenience. The seats on these types of strollers do not recline, and therefore these models are best for kids who are least six months of age.
* Full-size stroller
Formerly referred to as a pram or a carriage, a full-size stroller is virtually flat and designed to accommodate very small babies. These options tend to provide a great deal of enclosure and coverage as well, making them perfect for newborns. These full-size strollers are quite heavy and often difficult to move in and out of vehicles.
* Multi-function strollers
Among the most adaptable options on the market are multi-function strollers designed to work well for infants as well as toddlers. Infant car carrier seats and even bassinets often fit into these models, with certain makers integrating the capacity for a second seat. Parents who have had two children within short periods of time often find these to be the most useful products they own.
* All-terrain strollers
The popularity of all-terrain strollers has exploded in recent years. These models closely resemble jogging strollers, but are equipped with a front wheel that moves in a swivel motion. The also have large tires meant to make hiking on trails and paths much easier. The weight of these strollers can be prohibitive for some, as can the cost that may hit over $400.
* Travel system
A stroller travel system is a combination of infant car carrier and stroller which can work together as a unit during the child’s first months. These systems are popular as shower gifts for new parents and can be found a large retailers everywhere. Travel systems have declined in terms of popularity of late, as more and more lightweight options have been adapted to integrate car carriers with greater ease.
Buyer’s Guide: Choosing The Best Jogging Stroller
The following information is meant to assist anyone attempting to narrow the hunt for the right jogging stroller. It outlines some of the key features to seek when making this all-important purchase.
Safety Features
There is nothing more important than ensuring that the baby meant to ride in the new jogging stroller is kept happy, healthy and safe on every journey. As such, it is best to look only at models fitted with five-point child harnesses, broad sun shades and strong braking systems.
Quality
Considering the fairly high price tag attached to jogging strollers, it is important to find one that exemplifies quality construction. Seek a model that is clearly capable of handling uneven terrain as well as busy city streets. Going with a well-established brand is never a bad idea, as these products tend to have the quality tires, stable frames and durable fabric components that will stand the test of time.
Ease Of Travel
Taking young children along wherever you go is a daunting prospect, and unwieldy equipment only makes the process harder. Therefore, be sure to test the folding mechanism on any jogging stroller being considered, because this can be a deal breaker in many ways. Check to see if the stroller, when folded, can stand on its own, as this can make life so much simpler for parents who are always on the go.
Baby’s Comfort Level
Because jogging stroller can be used for lengthy runs in the park as well as full days at the zoo, it is imperative that the youngster contained within it feel comfort every step of the way. Reclining options, plush padding and sun shading are all elements that will contribute to any child’s willingness to sit for extended periods. Parents should also keep their own comfort in mind when shopping by searching for models that have handles that are fully height adjustable as well as padded. Otherwise, trips can quickly turn into unpleasant chores that nobody wants to attempt.
Storage Capacity
A final consideration which must never be overlooked when in the market for a jogging stroller is that of storage capacity. Whether in use as an exercise aid or a functional stroller for a day at the amusement park, storage is critical to everyone’s comfort and convenience. Fortunately, there are many jogging strollers available today that are fitted with deep, accessible storage baskets, cup holders and more. The key is to first think about what items are likely to be needed for a typical adventure in the stroller and find a model that can hold it all with ease.
Tips for Running with a Jogging Stroller
When you are running, it is always important to be safe, but you need to be extra cautious when running with a jogging stroller. Below are several effective tips to make running with a jogging stroller comfortable, safe, and easier for both you and your baby.
1. Ensure that the Baby is Old Enough
It is never safe to go running with a child that’s under 6 months in a jogging stroller unless it comes with a car seat adaptor. Using the jogging stroller with the car seat ensures that the baby’s neck and head are stable and that he/she doesn’t get bounced around too much.
2. Don’t Forget to Lock the Front Wheel
Some jogging stroller models come with a front wheel that’s fixed, while others come with a switch that allows for locking and unlocking of the wheel. It is always safe to lock the front wheel in place when running with the stroller. This ensures that the stroller does not turn suddenly thus causing you to fall or crash.
3. Pack Wisely
Jogging strollers typically come with a basket underneath along with other holders or compartments, which means that you will have sufficient room for things that you might require during the run. Don’t forget wipes, diapers, water, spare clothes, snacks, and a book or toy for entertaining your child.
4. Ensure that Your Child is Protected from the Elements
Don’t forget that while you will warm up due to the running, your child won’t. So, ensure that you bundle him/her in cooler weather. In case it’s windy and cold, you should consider using a weather shield for the stroller. On the warm days, ensure that the baby isn’t overdressed and protected with the stroller’s visor and some sunscreen. On the very hot or cold days, keep your runs short or leave your child with a sitter or spouse.
5. Strap in the Child with the Full Harness
The harness is for protecting the child from either getting shaken or falling out, so strive to use it as it was intended. Even when you are not moving too fast, the harness will prevent your child from reaching out and getting his/her fingers caught in the wheels of the stroller.
6. Don’t Run Near Vehicles Whenever Possible
It is advisable to run in bike paths, parks, sidewalks, or other areas where traffic is the least of your worries. It is not only a safer option, but the ride will be more comfortable for your child since you never have to stop and start multiple times to avoid vehicles and cross streets.
7. Schedule Your Runs Wisely
One of the best times to go for a run is right before naptime since the motion is likely to put the child to sleep. It is generally not advisable to try running just before a meal when the child is hungry and is not looking forward to sitting in the stroller.
8. Avoid Running Hands-Free
It can be tempting to push the stroller a bit and let it go so that you can run hands-free, but it isn’t recommended. The stroller might easily get away from you, which can be unsafe for both your child and anybody else around you.
9. Pushing with One Hand
Pushing a jogging stroller can impede the natural swing of your arm, which can make it a lot tougher on the legs. So, always try to push the stroller using one arm while you swing with the other one. Continue switching the arms to ensure that you work both sides.
10. You Shouldn’t Expect to Run at the Regular Pace
Expect the pace to be at least a minute per mile slower compared to your regular pace. However, you will be doing some resistance training and burning more calories with your effort, so don’t let the slower pace bother you. You will also discover that running with your stroller gets easier the more you run with it.
11. Be in Control of the Stroller
You must never run so fast that it would be impossible for you to stop the stroller if needed. It is your responsibility to use momentum in such a way that it is you that’s always in control of the stroller.
12. Mix It Up Slightly
Preschoolers and toddlers can get restless in the stroller, so it can be a good idea to let them out to play for a while during your run. They are likely to be more comfortable and happier with a small break in the middle of your run.
Maintenance and Safety
Parents are often warned by the AAP about hanging bags or other items from a stroller’s handlebar because the weight can make the stroller tip over.
Strollers require tune-ups every 3 to 6 months, depending on how much they are used and whether they are used on challenging surfaces such as gravel or sand. A tune-up should include screw tightening, adjustment of the brakes, as well as checking the buttons, axles, suspension, and handlebars. It also includes cleaning of the wheels and lubrication of the wheels, joints, and hinges. It is also important to ensure that tires are properly inflated.
You can clean the fabric using mild soap, a sponge, and water while the stroller can be cleaned using warm water; never use abrasive cleaners. The wheel axles should also be cleaned and grease applied to the moving parts. In case of squeaks in your stroller, you should daub some sewing machine oil into its axles.
Beware of The Following Common Baby Stroller Safety Hazards
Just because you bought a stroller at the Baby Megastore it does not automatically mean that it’s safe. Each year, 12,000 babies are injured by strollers, according to the most current government safety data.
Here are the top safety tips:
Avoid hanging bags from the handle of the stroller. You might be tempted to hang your purse or diaper bag off the stroller handles. The danger: the stroller might tip backwards, and even if your child is in the 5-point harness, he or she can still sustain injuries. Solution: put your purse in the stroller’s storage basket. Alternatively, use a backpack diaper bag.
Avoid leaving your child unattended while he/she is sleeping in a stroller. Infants, newborns, and toddlers all move around when they are sleeping. Babies have sustained injuries when babies creep down to the strap openings, so ensure that you keep your eye on them. A better alternative would be to take your baby out of the stroller and put him/her in a full-size crib for naps.
Never Trust the Brakes. The best baby stroller models come with brakes on 2 wheels instead of just 1. But even if a stroller has the best brakes, you should never leave it unattended on an incline especially if the baby is inside.
Stick to the Weight Limits. 40 pounds is typically the maximum for a vast majority of strollers.
Jogging strollers are ideal for babies over 1 year of age. Pediatric experts say that neck muscles of infants under 1 year of age cannot handle the bumps of walking or jogging on rough terrain.
Fold and unfold the stroller away from the baby. A stroller’s opening and closing mechanisms can be a pinching hazard, so avoid opening or closing the stroller with the baby close by.
FAQ
Q: What Stroller Features Are Really Important for Parents?
It is all about the storage. It is impossible to ever have enough storage. What matters here is not just how small or big the storage basket is but rather how the basket is accessed, particularly with the seat reclined. The best strollers have storage in areas that you would never think such as at the back of the seat, on the hood, a storage compartment with a lid in a parent console for the phone and so on.
The proper wheels. If you are going for a nature walk on a dirt trail, you should go for air filled 12-inch rear tires. If you will be navigating tight spaces at Seattle’s Pikes Place Market, you should go for 6-inch wheels that allow for tight turns.
Removable seat pad for washing. Spilt juice, crushed-in cookies, and the usual grime can make the stroller a mobile dirt-fest. Some stroller models come with removable seat cushions that are machine washable while other models let you remove all the fabric for cleaning purposes.
Reversible seat. If a baby is young, you can have him/her face you. Then once the toddler wants to see the world, you just flip around the seat.
The fewer the hands and steps needed to fold a stroller the better. The best models come with 1-hand folds that stand if collapsed. If the stroller has a foot release or brake, ensure that you do this in a flipflop and the pedal does not mess up your pedicure.
Height adjustable handle. If both you and your partner are of different stature, you need an adjustable handle.
Q: Is It Safe to Use Jogging Strollers?
Jogging strollers have been designed to be stable, safe, and comfortable for the child while you are running. Therefore, you will be much safer jogging with a jogging stroller than with a regular stroller.
Q: Is It Possible To Use a Jogging Stroller as an Eeveryday Stroller?
Yes.
Q: Do All Jogging Stroller Models Have Both Swivel and Fixed Options?
No. You may have to spend a bit more for dual functionality. If your plan is only to be running with it then go for the option with permanently fixed wheels that points straight ahead.
Q: Is It Safe To Put An Infant Car Seat on The Jogging Stroller?
While several models have a car seat adapter where you can mount it, it isn’t advisable to do so because it can cause physical injuries to your child. A better alternative is to buy baby strollers with car seats.
