- Although TV shows and movies often depicting people waxing their vehicles outdoors, we advise you to do it indoors. Direct sunlight could alter the final result as it can cause uneven heating in different areas of your vehicle, altering the amount of wax that gets absorbed, and may even leave residues.
- Test the product. Before applying any wax product on your car, we recommend that you try it first by applying it on an inconspicuous part of your car like the doorjamb. This just makes it really hard to remove and streak the sealant or wax. Apply one coat and buff it off before applying a second thinner coat. Check the product’s label to see the amount of time a single coat will take to cure before you can apply another (normally take twelve to eighteen hours).
- To achieve the thinnest, most even coat, consider using a poly foam wax applicator. These applicators are super absorbent, reusable, washable, and durable. The great thing is that they are inexpensive, so do not be afraid to throw the one you have when it gets too soiled.
- Buff all the haze away with a microfiber rag. A quality towel, such as the Miracle Towel should buff off your car’s pain to a fabulous shine as you rub off the waxy residue. The fibres of a microfiber are statically-charged, and therefore, grab the wax residue so there’s less dusting. Microfiber rags do not shed lint and their tiny fibers polish the paint as you buff. Rotate the towel often to reveal the clean side. Keep an extra pair near just in case the first gets covered with wax.
- If you do get an uneven shine or streaks, you would be glad to know that this can be easily corrected using quick detail sprays. Mist the affected area with Pinnacle Crystal Mist Detail Spray or Wolfgang Instant Detail Spritz and buff the problem away.

- If you are applying paste wax, spread it on the pad just like you would when buttering a slice of bread. Turn the wax jar upside down and place some wax on a plastic sandwich bag then rub the it on the pad; alternatively, you could use a putty knife. If you are using a liquid sealant or wax, simply pour three 3-inch lines of wax around the pad’s edge.
- If you are planning on using a liquid sealant or wax, press your polisher to the paint and spread it over a panel before switching on the machine. This will make it less likely for there to be a splatter.
- If you have a dual-action polisher, set it to max speed of 3. Check the wax label for specific directions; nevertheless, this is often the fastest speed you will need when applying wax. Spread it over the panel until it’s evenly covered. Turn off the machine before you lift it off.
