This portable space heater by Dr. Infrared measures 13 x 11 x 16 inches and weighs 23.5 pounds. Unlike other types of heaters that heat air inside of the room, this heater has dual heating system technology that uses infrared technology and convection.

Based on our personal experience, that allows the heater to maintain and increase the temperature inside of a room more evenly and faster. Underwriter Labs (UL) in Canada as well as the U.S. have certified the applied for its highest safety standard.

Good news if you have children or pets!

As advertised, it doesn’t get hot to one’s touch even after being on high for hours, so you won’t have worry if there are pets or children around.

We found that the Dr. Infrared Portable Heaters works very well. Particularly in terms of raising a small room’s temperature fast. This is a quiet heater, but there is a humming sound that isn’t too distracting.

We also found that the heater dries the air faster although that isn’t what it says in the ad. With a low 1000 watt setting, more power is used by this heater compared to a majority of other heaters in this same price range.

Pros
  • The rooms is heated up evenly and faster by the Dual Technology
  • Includes a remote control and timer
  • Comes with caster wheels and a carrying handle for portability
  • Contains both a tip-over switch and thermal auto shut-off
  • Doesn’t get hot while being used
Cons
  • Dries the air
  • A bit on the noisy side since the thermostat continuously adjusts
  • Consumes lots of power whenever it is used as the primary source of heat

2. DeLonghi EW7707CM Safe Heat 1500W ComforTemp Portable Oil-Filled Radiator – Best Oil Heater for Large Room

De'Longhi Oil filled Radiator Heater, 1500W Electric Space Heater for indoor use, portable room heater, Energy...#ad
  • Simple Controls allow you to easily adjust power level and temperature.
  • Up to 20% more efficient* deploy the ComfortTemp feature to automatically maintain the optimal temperature and power levels. *versus using the same unit thermostat at max setting without ComfortTemp
  • Exclusive thermal slot design maximizes heat flow into the room while maintaining a low surface temperature
  • Better Heating- delivers gentle heat minimizing dry air, creating a better breathing environment that is more allergy friendly with no fan to stir up dust, pollen and dander.
  • Integrated handle and control panel allow you to easily operate and relocate your heater during or after use.

This oil-filled radiative heater by DeLonghi measures 14 x 25 x 11 inches and weighs 25 pounds.

This is a fairly large space heater.

It is designed on the inside to use patented thermal slots that are intended for maintaining a low surface temperature and maximizing heat flow at the same time. Seven fin-heating elements are included that are filled with oil and sealed permanently for providing maximum heat.

The control panel’s three heat settings are very easy to use, and range from 700 watts on its lowest setting up to 1500 watts on its highest setting. In addition it has a very accurate thermostat to maintain your ideal temperature.

Just one of these heaters is sufficient for keeping a medium or large size room at a comfortably warm temperature even when on its lowest setting. They look nice and are well built overall.

However, the DeLonghi didn’t completely impress us.

We found that the space heater did a poor job in terms of raising the room’s temperature, which is what a radiative heater is expected to do. However, after using the central heating unit to warm things up, this heater is ideal for maintaining the desired temperature and minimize your bills.

We noticed that when the EW770CM is on it is very difficult to move it around since it is heavy and gets very hot. It would be easier if there were two handles on both the front and back.

Pros
  • The temperature levels can be controlled very accurately
  • Quiet operation
  • Installed with carrying handle and wheels
  • A thermal cut-off safety feature is provided to prevent the heater from overheating
Cons
  • A timer is not included
  • The wheels aren’t built very well and seem like they may come off
  • Finding the thermostat is impossible when it is dimly lit or dark
  • Gets very hot to the touch and if left unattended might be a fire hazard

3. DeLonghi HMP1500 Mica Panel Heater – Low-budget Choice & Best Indoor Electric Space Heater for Large Rooms

DeLonghi Mica Panel Space Heater, 1500W quiet electric space heater for indoor use, adjustable thermostat,...#ad
  • QUIET HEATER - Best for medium and large rooms, the 1500-watt Mica Panel Heater quickly delivers gentle heat that won’t stir up dust, pollen, or dander. Customize it to your needs with easy-to-use controls, an adjustable thermostat & two settings.
  • MAXIMIZE EFFICIENCY - This De’Longhi heater converts 100% of the electricity used into heat when it's switched on, with no wasted energy. That means it delivers continuous heat while raising the room temperature to your desired setting.
  • BUILT-IN SAFETY - Features include a thermal shutoff to prevent overheating, an internal tip-over switch that automatically turns the unit off & a standby setting that turns on the heater when temperatures drop below 41 to help prevent frozen pipes.
  • SLIM DESIGN - Take advantage of the slim design by positioning the freestanding heater on the floor, or mount it on the wall with the included kit. The light weight and carry handle make it easy to move to another room as needed.
  • BETTER EVERY DAY - A De’Longhi product always turns everyday activities & moments into something special. Born in 1974 as a brand of electric radiators, we now offer innovative appliances for every area of the home.

This radiative mica panel space heater from DeLonghi measures at 27 x 10 x 22 inches and weighs just eight pounds. It features a slim sleek design and all of the equipment necessary for mounting it onto a wall.

We were able to easily adjust the setting for the perfect room temperature thermostat as well as the three heating settings. The low setting provides 750 watts, while the power output on the high setting offers 1500 watts.

However, is it actually safe?

Yes, it is. A thermal cut-off is included in the event there is overheating. There is also an internal tip-over switch on the heater in case it falls over. The caution/power indicator lights are useful and well positioned.

The DeLonghi HMP1500 runs very quietly and emits safe, clean, gentle heat. This heater, due to the Mica Thermic technology offers instant heat – which we found to be nearly impossible with traditional oil radiator heaters.

There is also an added bonus included…

The heater doesn’t become hot to the touch even when its been used for hours on the maximum setting, which makes it deal for anybody who has pets and children in their homes.

The heater increased the temperature easily on medium and small-sized rooms that we tested it on. However, the heat didn’t spread through the room evenly; we attribute that to the fact that the machine is lacking a fan inside of it.

The thin profile of the heater means it may be hung up as something decorative that your neighbors won’t be able to tell immediately what it is. But we do recommend that it is placed as low as possible given that hot air has a tendency to rise and cold air is pushed down.

We notice during the first four hours that we operate the machine that there was a faint odor. However, it disappeared completely after that.

Pros
  • Slim and lightweight design offers many options in terms of where the heater is placed
  • Unlike a conventional radiative heater, it provides instant heat
  • Even on its highest heat setting it stays cool
  • A thermal auto shut-off feature is included
  • Portable and for easy movement wheels are included
Cons
  • Fails to evenly spread heat around a room
  • Makes a noticeable humming noise
  • Works best in rooms that that smaller than 200 square feet

4. DeLonghi TRD0715T Safeheat 1500W Portable Oil-Filled Radiator with Vertical Thermal Tunnels

No products found.

The DeLonghi TRD0715T is among the most popular of all of the oil-filled radiant space heaters that are available in the market currently. It provides maximum heat that an oil-filled radiant heater can provide while at the same time maintaining a cool exterior. The patented thermal chimneys from DeLonghi help with directing heat out of and up the device, and helps to deliver additional heat to the room.

The heater is safe to the touch as well, which makes it perfect for houses that have children or pets. It is hard to find a space heater that provides sufficient heat while minimizing the chances of accidental burns and bumps. The exterior of the heater is made out of rust-resistant durable metal with rounded corners to make sure that the user isn’t caught on rough edges. There is also an internal thermal cutoff that comes with the heater that helps to ensure it doesn’t overheat.

There are seven channels on this unit that are permanently sealed and filled up with pure diathermic oil. It may be run for the heater’s lifetime without having to be refilled or replaced. There are no internal parts on this device, so the heater is able to provide warmth on a consistent basis without constant clicking, hissing, or buzzing. The quiet operation of the device makes it perfect for use in TV rooms, home offices, and bedrooms.

The 24-hour programmable timer is one of the Delonghi TRD0715T main features. A majority of space heaters come with just rudimentary thermostats and timers. However the timer on this heater is able to run the whole day without added input from the user. There are 96 different settings on the timer and is is easy to understand and use. The timer helps to heat up spaces without the user having to fiddle around with the controls constantly.

The heater may be used directly out of the box without having to do any more assembly. The setup is as easy as putting the heater where you would like it to be, plugging it in, and then turning it on. After that, the easy-to-use controls enable you to adjust the temperature as desired and run its three fan settings. If you would like to move your heater into a different room, you can easily wrap its 72-inch cord around its front plate, which makes storing and moving the unit very easy. The heater has an anti-freeze feature also, which turns on the unit automatically whenever the temperature goes lower than 42 degrees Fahrenheit. That helps to prevent electronics, water pipes, and other fragile items that don’t do well in cold temperatures from being damaged.

Pros
  • Can provide flexible and fast heating into whatever room that it is set up in without the need for complex controls or a long warm-up time.
  • Its wheels snap down and enable the device to stay in place. They also can be pulled back in place, which allows the heater to roll on four wheels.
  • This device maximizes radiant heat flow while a low surface temperature is maintained by using thermal tunnels and vents
  • The adjustable heat and thermostat setting make it very easy for a user to set whatever the ideal temperature is, and to keep the room at this desired heating level.
  • Its chassis is made out of rust-resistant metal that works to extend the heater’s life and helps to prevent corrosion.
  • Its anti-freeze setting helps to prevent damaged electronics and frozen pipes without the heater having to run all of the time.
  • The operation of the heater is nearly silent, and that makes it perfect for offices and bedrooms
Cons
  • If the heater is damaged or dropped some of its functions may not work and it may leak oil.
  • For the first couple of weeks that the device is used it may have a funny smell. You can help to prevent the smell by proofing the heater outdoors. Proofing means allowing the heater to run on the highest setting so that any excess paint burns off that may cause there to be a harsh smell emitted.

5. Lifesmart Large Room Infrared Quartz Fireplace in Burnished Oak Finish w/Remote

No products found.

The unit has received some of the best reviews for electric fireplaces heaters that can be found online. Enough heat is produced by the fireplace to warm up 1,000 square feet, and it has really realistic looking fire animation.

Heat is produced by the electric fireplace through the use of infrared technology, so that it heats objects up directly in front of it, without the air molecules being warmed up. After those items have accumulated some heat, they start to radiate it, which warms up the air over large big surfaces.

A gorgeous oak mantle surrounds the fireplace, which makes it a beautiful addition for any room. It is a freestanding unit, which means it can be moved around your home. Casters support the entire unit, so it can be pushed to wherever you would like it to be without having to lift it up.

Pros
  • Its infrared heating is really good since it doesn’t dry the air up inside of a room. It is excellent for those suffering from the common cold or allergies.
  • A remote control comes with the unit so you can remotely change all of its settings, as long as there is a clear line of sight of the fireplace for the remote.
Cons
  • It is a small electric fireplace. If you would like it to be the focal point of a large room then it may not be your best choice.
  • The power cord is short which makes it difficult to place the electric fireplace if you would like to adhere to the three feet minimum of clearance needed in order for it to run safely.

If you will be tackling large rooms then the heat will need to have a way of getting around. It will not be that difficult when the Lifesmart model is switched on, since the fan pushes air over to the other side of a room. At times you won’t want to have to wait for the heat to get warmed up. Due to its 12 hour built in stop and start timer, you don’t need to. Everything can easily be pre-programmed ahead of time. It also works in one hour increments, so if you are not wanting to keep your indoor heater on constantly all day long then you won’t have to touch it all the time. You won’t need to program anything over 12 hours in advance.

Its buttons are on the control panel making them easy to see. They can be accessed quickly also, however, that doesn’t mean that you must. Instead, you may want to use the big remote control. It has everything that is needed for changing the temperature whenever you don’t feel like getting up. If you can see what the temperature reading is on its control panel then you can use it from anyplace inside of the room.

Whenever you purchase one of the top indoor heaters for use in a large room it goes beyond what it has inside of it. You also would like for the unit to be attractive as well, since it will become part of your decor. Just wait until you see the Lifesmart LS-1000X-6W-IN and how it looks. • Easy-to-use control panel for selection of temperature and power level with programmable 24 hour timer.
  • De'Longhi Exclusive: 75% more radiant surface area than RadiaS due to unique design*- the more radiant surface= the more heat transferred to you and your environment

  • Better Heating- delivers gentle heat minimizing dry air, creating a better breathing environment that is more allergy friendly with no fan to stir up dust, pollen and dander.
  • Integrated handles and control panel allows you to easily operate and relocate your heater at any time during or after use.

This large room radiant heater is for those who would like to have an oil-filled radiator that is able to produce radiant and convective heat. This can easily heat up a room that is as big as 144 square feet and it will get it warm quickly. By design, the new panel has a 25% bigger radiant surface. It also has thermal chimneys that are patented and made to maximize heat flow.

The oil inside the Dragon 4 is permanently sealed making it inaccessible. This is actually one of the big benefits of this type of radiator. Another benefit is the fact that there is very little maintenance work needed. It’s constructed out of very tough metal and this in part is why the oil will not seep out. It is rust resistant and the look of it will not diminish with age.

The thermal chimneys that were mentioned above help to speed the heating process up while keeping the surface temperature low which helps keep you from ever getting burned. This makes it especially good for those who have children or pets. If the surface of the heater didn’t remain cool then even after you turned it off it would still be possible to get burnt for some time afterward.

If a heater like this were to ever overheat it could cause significant damage so this has a safety feature to help prevent that. In fact, it’ll never reach the point where it gets too hot. The heater is made so that you can only set the temperature up so high to prevent any issues from happening. It even has a feature that prevents it from freezing as well. If the temperature drops below 42 degrees Fahrenheit it switches on.

The Dragon 4 is totally silent which means that it’s very comfortable when using it any time of day or night regardless of what you are doing. This heater doesn’t have any moving parts and yet it’s able to heat large rooms quickly. The technology that allows this is amazing. This heater also uses advanced technology rather than fans to disperse the heat which makes it a great choice and is one of the reasons it is so quiet.

This heater weighs only 24 lb and its size is 16 by 6.5 by 25 in which means it is easily portable and can fit in many rooms. You can use the carry handle to pick it up and it even comes with smart snap wheels to push it around. This means it’s very maneuverable so that you can put it where you need it and those who own this heater find its features very convenient.

Pros
  • Completely Silent
  • Doesn’t Need To Be Supervised
  • Super Easy To Use

In simple terms, it allows you to bring down the overall temperature of the home. After all, there is no point in keeping your whole house warm in winters if you’re not using many of those rooms. Indoor heater will provide you additional warmth as and when needed while keeping your energy bills down.

Happy Family Members

Think carefully about everything that we have said about lowering your energy bills. It’s true that you can’t lower the temperature without negatively affecting the family members. However, with everyone in the family having an indoor heater, there is no need to crank up the thermostat. The thermostat can be dialed down and each family member has the choice to choose the temperature comfortable for them with an indoor heater. It will keep everyone happy.

Protect the Environment

Many people are interested in protecting the environment these days as gas powered models are being replaced by cordless power tools and vertical farming is also quickly becoming popular all around the country. We also want to play our part in keeping the environment safe and one of the good ways to protect the environment is to become more energy efficient. After all, there are no downsides to saving money and saving the planet at the same time.

Portability

You do not need to be worried about being trapped in the same room all day or night long. An indoor heater is portable and you can quickly move it to another room even after turning down the thermostat. The indoor heaters specifically designed for bigger rooms are designed to be portable. Even if some of the bigger models are not easy to pick up, it is still easy to move them from one room to another on wheels. You will face problems in moving the heater only when it’s mounted on a wall.

Quick Heating

When it comes to central heating, there is no denying the fact that it takes a while to reach the desired temperature. So, if you rely on central heating, you will remain cold for a while even if you turn on the temperature right when you get home. Setting up timers for the thermostat is only going to work if you’re sure of the exact time you’ll get home each day. However, there is no such limitation when it comes to portable indoor heaters as these are capable of heating up rooms much quicker. As far as the speed of heating is concerned, it will depend on the model you choose to buy but you can rest assured that you will start feeling warm within a few minutes.

No Central Heating

Even if you have central heating, there will be rooms where no heating is available. For instance, your garage may not be centrally heated. Some people do like to use their garage regularly even during the winter months. They might want to use the garage as a workshop where they work every night. An indoor heater designed for large rooms will allow you to work comfortably in such a big area. This setting can also be applied to other rooms throughout your home.

How To Switch From Watts To British Thermal Units?

There are gas as well as electric heaters available in the market but doing an apples to apples comparison is not easy without finding out the equivalent BTU for gas heaters. Most of the electric models available in the market are rated at 1500 W and this is the number we are going to use to determine the BTU equivalent.

You should start by finding the wattage rating of the indoor heater. In this case, the reading is 1500 W. This number should be multiplied by 3.41 which means, your calculation will come to 5,115 BTU per hour. So, if you want to find the equivalent gas heater, you want to find gas models that have a rating of 5,115 BTU.

Different Types of Space Heaters

Space heaters warm the air by two different methods which are defined below.

Radiative Heaters

In simple terms, radiative heaters may be defined as heaters that heat up things through radiation. These works similar to a halogen light bulb but these radiate heat in the infrared spectrum. It means heating the objects directly around it instead of heating the air in the room. This property makes these heaters extremely energy-efficient as the objects are heated directly but as far as the looks are concerned, these may not seem as attractive as convection heaters.

Convection Space Heaters

In this type of space heater, a heating element is used for warming the air or heating the oil. This heated air is pushed into the room with the help of a fan. It may also have an oscillator for spreading around the heated air. The oil based convection heaters take some time to heat up but the surface temperature remains lower as compared to heaters that work by warming the air.

Choosing the Right Type of Fuels

You have a wide variety of choices in terms of fuel types when you are choosing a heater. Here’s a list of some of the choices:

  • Electric: As the name suggests, electric supply is used by these heaters for power. These heaters can be directly integrated in the central heating system and you also have the option of using these on their own.
  • Natural Gas: In this case, the natural gas supply already available in your home is used as fuel. It’s a cheap way of powering the heater. These heaters are also comparatively easy to be installed.
  • Kerosene: It’s a cheap fuel and safer than propane when it comes to storage. Heaters using this fuel can be incredibly powerful and this is the reason, these heaters are popular among people who need heat in workplace.
  • Propane: It’s a cheap fuel and these heaters can be used outdoors as well as indoors.
  • Pellets: Heaters that use this fuel source are incredibly powerful and can be used for heating up your entire home. It’s a cheap source of power and these heaters are also highly efficient.
  • Oil Filled Heater: These heaters use electric supply for power. Convection currents are used in these heaters and this is the reason, these stay warm even after turning off.
  • Hydronic Heaters: The main boiler in your home is used for warming up these heaters. Hot water that is heated by the boiler is passed on to the heater where it is used for warming up the heating appliance.

There are a number of choices when it comes to choosing an energy source for heating up your home. Being aware of such choices allows you to weigh up the pros and cons of different types of fuels for your heating needs.

What Types of Heaters Are Available?

Similar to the variety of fuel options to choose from, many different types of heaters are available for buying. Here is a list of some of the popular varieties of heaters to choose from.

Oil filled and hydronic heaters are typically flat and have a wide surface area. One of the biggest advantages of these heaters is that these retain heat for some time even after these are turned off. However, these type of heaters take some time to get going and due to use of convective heating method, it may take some time for heat to thoroughly disperse all around the room.

You can use propane heaters outdoors as well as indoors. For indoor use, it is important for you to ensure that the propane heater is specifically designed for indoor use in a safe manner. Propane heaters designed for outdoor use should never be used indoors. Propane heaters can provide heat through convective method, radiation method or fan forced heat depending on the type of environment that needs to be warmed up. For instance, patio heaters typically use propane as fuel source.

The biggest advantage of a kerosene heater is that it is capable of producing big amounts of heat in a short period of time. Kerosene heaters can sufficiently warm up your entire home. You can use these to heat up your warehouse or your garage. However, it is important to be careful while using such heaters as the place needs to be well ventilated. Do not forget to follow the recommended safety procedures while using these heaters.

Electric heaters are also available in a wide variety of sizes and shapes. These are typically designed for indoor use. You can mount these to a ceiling or wall or you can attach these to a baseboard. Some of the models are also portable. A wide variety of these heaters are available in the market.

Benefits and Drawbacks of Different Heaters

In just a short while, we’ll take a look at a number of oil-filled, convector, and infrared heaters. As such, it makes some sense to first go over some of the upsides and downsides of each kind. So, let’s take a look at a bit of information that can help you choose just which model might work best for you:

Pros of Infrared Heaters

No Impact On Room Humidity: Infrared heaters aren’t going to impact the humidity in the surrounding air given how it targets objects and people. That will help provide protection to both houseplants and wood furniture. On top of that, humid air cuts down on your heating costs.

Infrared Heat Can Enhance Your Health: Additional humidity actually has a number of health benefits. Infrared heat means you can enjoy the benefits of natural sunlight, but without the harmful UV radiation. It even has the capacity to improve better blood circulation.

Cons of Infrared Heaters

Heat Disappears Fast After It’s Turned Off: When air isn’t heated directly, it creates a huge problem. Once you turn an infrared heater off, then the heat is going to dissipate quite fast. It won’t linger around in the manner you typically expect.

Radiant Heat Goes In Straight Lines: A number of infrared heaters can warm their room with ease, but the radiant heat always goes in a straight line. As such, if you’re in a room where you need to move around a bit, you’ll not notice as much effect.

Pros of Convector Heaters

Not As Much Need To Be Mindful Of Furniture: Furniture can’t be put too close to any infrared heater since they heat up physical objects. Convection heaters don’t have this issue, and as such, you’ll have a lot more latitude in choosing where to put one.

You Can Walk Around The Room: You feel warm and fuzzy only when infrared heater actually hits you, but movement means losing efficiency. A convection heater is going to warm the air of an entire room, regardless of where in the room you are.

Cons of Convector Heaters

Not Great For Rooms That Aren’t Insulated Well: Convection heaters don’t work as good in rooms with doors and windows that get used a bunch. They have to work harder to heat up the air if some of it is escaping, which is different than infrared models targeting specific physical objects.

You Warm Up Slower: This particular downside is also related to the fact that a convection heater will warm up the air inside the room. Even a fan will take time to accomplish this. Once active, infrared heat is going to heat you up much faster.

Pros of Oil-Filled Heaters

You’ll Stay Warm In The Dead Of Night: Once any oil gets heated up, it’s not going to cool down quickly after the heater gets turned off. If you don’t like keeping indoor heaters on while you’re sleeping, this might prove a useful option for staying warm later into the night.

Enjoy Peace And Quiet: As oil warms up, it releases its hot air into a room quite slowly. Without fans to physically distribute the heat, you’ll enjoy a very quiet heater that doesn’t keep bugging your ears.

Cons of Oil-Filled Heaters

They Can Take A While To Actually Heat Up: You’re not going to get quick winter heat out of these. You’ll eventually get warmth, but only after the oil heats up. If you’re not someone who likes to wait or can be patient, other options might be better choices.

The Heat Stays In That Room Forever: Yes, this was just stated as advantageous, but it can equally backfire. There might be times you want the heat to dissipate fast. An oil-filled heater simply isn’t going to do this.

Take Note:

Plenty more drawbacks and benefits could have been gone over here, but they don’t all apply to each and every model. Just know that each heater discussed in this content provides great value for your money. We don’t have the time or resources to go over every model the modern market has, but we do go over quite a few factors when we choose what we think the best indoor heaters are for big rooms.

Two Ways of Powering a Space Heater

Electric Space Heaters: Quite a few space heaters are powered electrically. You can plug these simple machines into a standard power outlet, which is quite handy in a residential home. You can find these heaters in various styles, sizes, and levels of output.

Gas Heaters: These kinds of heaters get powered by a gas, typically butane or propane, but there are others. Since this kind of power creates carbon dioxide, it is sometimes risky to use such a heater in an area with poor ventilation. Rather, they are used better in a work area, or even possibly on a back porch. In environments such as these, they’re superior to their electric variants, since they can be easily moved from one place to the next. They’ll also give off even more heat.

Buyer’s Guide: What Considerations Play into Picking The Optimal Space Heater for a Big Room?

Actual Size: The variety of space heaters in terms of size is quite big. It might be wise to get a small heater based on the dimensions of the space you actually need to heat up.

Setting It Up: Electric heaters typically require the least effort to use, since most are ready to go once out of the packaging. However, gas heaters are going to need you to get additional fixtures in order for them to function.

Mountability: A number of space heaters have fixtures which you can use to mount them on a wall or even a ceiling, which can be quite handy in a small space without a lot of real estate left.

Control Over The Temperature: This is another area of space heaters with a lot of variety. Some units come with simple high/low comfort settings or switches, and others let you dedicate control down to a specific degree number.

Thermostats: Some of the currently available heaters have thermostats built in that can track the room’s temperature so that automatic output adjustments are possible.

Safety Concerns: If you want truly stress-free use, then you might enjoy overheating protections or even an automated shutdown should a machine get tipped over.

Casing Heat Level: Some heaters have outer casings that might be hot to touch if the heater is being used. Knowing which models these are is crucial if you have small kids or pets before you buy one that might not have it.

Timer: Are you someone who forgets to turn off an appliance once you’re done with it? A heater that has a timer built-in can turn itself off, which is handy if you want to sleep.

Noise Volume: If noises bother you, look for a heater which doens’t have any fans. Radiative heaters typically don’t, so they might prove more quiet.

Remote Control: A number of models now come with remote controls that let you switch temperature settings from wherever you’re sitting or lying down. This is very handy on a truly cold evening.

Decor: Space heaters come in many colors and shapes, so you might find something that matches your room’s aesthetics or tastes. You might discover though that electric devices are a bit more attractive in general than propane burners. Right now, tower-shaped units are trendy, and you can even find some that look like old-time radiators or even fire places.

The Most Popular Brands of Current Space Heaters

Lasko: This is one of the biggest names in terms of space heaters. Their variety will include many different prices, power levels, styles, and shapes. A lot of their units offer extras like digital displays and oscillation. This name is an industry standard and great starting point for your shopping.

DeLonghi: This name is also popular in the space heating sector. DeLonghi’s offerings do differ from Lasko. In particular, their specialty is often oil-filled heaters. They come sealed, so changing the oil isn’t something you’ll have to really worry about. They often keep cooler surface temperatures then electric variants. Some of the casings can prove interesting, including some that mimic classic radiators.

Dimplex: This maker provides offerings to a pair of audiences. If you’re looking for fan-blown workshop or wall heaters of utilitarian design, then you can find subtle yet robust offerings that work in most environs. Alternatively, if you want something that pops, they also have numerous fireplace recreations. Those models even incorporate fire effects that help you think you’re actually sitting right in front of a crackling fireplace.

Heater: This is a line of gas-powered heaters which are intended for use outside your home. Their output is much higher than a conventional electric heater, yet they’re also risky for enclosed spaces. If you want to heat up a back porch or project area, one of these models is likely to work well for you.

Safety Tips

  1. Keep all combustible materials a minimum of 5 feet from all heaters, since they might ignite.
  2. Space heaters need to be used as a secondary heat source; keep them away from a primary source.
  3. Makers discourage the use of extension cords given the heightened risk of fire. Extension cords are also trip hazards for young and adult alike.

Conclusion

As you’ve likely surmised, the market has quite a few space heaters available. However, if you’re looking for the best option for a big room in particular, then these are probably going to be the wisest choices you can make. A lot of users of these products feel that heat comes out with enough efficiency and abundance to fill up a big room. It might not heat up as fast as you could get with propane or have the efficient delivery that a smart thermostat would have, but it should create a comfortable living area when the winter is coldest.
